Dr. Heather Smith is an urban social geographer with interests urban restructuring and the patterns and dynamics of immigrant settlement and adjustment in North American cities. Current research projects focus on the intersection between immigrant settlement and high poverty, multiply deprived neighborhoods in Canadian cities and the evolution and implications of Hispanic "hyper-growth" cities across the American Southeast. Her book "Latinos in the New South: The Transformation of Place" co-edited with Dr. Owen Furuseth is to published by Ashgate Press in 2006. |
