La música latinoamericana abarca tantos estilos y géneros que sería imposible tratarla de una manera exhaustiva aquí. Esta página pretende simplemente presentar algunos tipos representativos de la música latinoamericana interpretada en español y en portugués.

El enfoque de la página es histórico, en el sentido de que no se enfatizan artistas contemporáneos de la música pop; de tal forma que el análisis se concentra en la música tradicional.

La página está organizada geográficamente, y con el tiempo, se espera que se puedan añadir más secciones. Los temas más sobresalientes que se incluyen son los siguientes :

LATIN AMERICAN MUSIC

Latin American music encompasses so much that to cover it adequately would require volumes. This site is intended only as an introduction to some representative types of music found in Spanish- and Portuguese-speaking North, Central, and South America. The focus is historical, in the sense that current pop performers from Latin America are not emphasized. Rather, the stress is on traditional music.

The site is organized geographically, and as time permits, additional sections will be added. The main topics included are as follows:

• The Mexican corrido from the Mexican revolution to the present-day narcocorridos
• Caribbean music: the Afro-Cuban son and the tríos of Puerto Rico
