Education:
Ph.D., Latin American Literature and Caribbean Literature, The University of Georgia (2003)
M.A., Spanish Literature, University of Georgia (1998)
B.A., Manhattan College (1994)

Research interests:
Caribbean literature, Latin American Poetry (specifically, "Los independientes del 40" from the Dominican Republic.)

Current Project:
"The Invention of a Political Poet" tentative title of a book project (in Spanish) that explores the poetics of Pedro Mir, National Poet of the Dominican Republic (1984). I argue that Mir's poetry is best understood as an account of internal struggles, rather than external events, that speak about Dominican identitiy, the trauma of living under a dictatorship and the challenges of poetic creation.
